Annette Carter
My name is Annette Carter. A slightly eccentric Queens student with a love of books and an uncertainty about my own work. This is a little introduction but I hope to get more confident in writing and become more free, just like all the things there are to be adored in life.

Balmy Nights by Annette
Carter
|
Its summer again.
I can feel that warm hazy heat creeping.
the gentle sweat of a summers night
embalm me as I toss and turn.
I begin to remember those lesuirely days
playing until night
slowly enveloped us and we bid belated
farewells
at our doorsteps.
But we did not fear the dark,
there was always tomorrow.
When we could return. Naively.
And now dusk wavers sadness,
tomorrow I can't go to play.
And the familiarilty of the crisp silence is no more.
I have only myself tomorrow.
Now,
I have waved goodbye.
to the gentle balm which held
me close, tenderly.
I yearn, I turn. Oh!
For those long nights
and longer days.
