IVAN COOPER ON CLAUDY AND FATHER JAMES CHESNEY
Ivan Cooper, was MP for the Claudy area in 1972, at the time of the Claudy bombings. He spoke to Sarah Brett as he waited for the findings of a police ombudsman's report on the investigation. Three carbombs exploded on the Main Street, leaving nine people dead, including one girl who was aged just eight years. Ivan Cooper said he believed father James Chesney had played a leading part in the bombing.
