Peter

Petes, words can only say so much
You didn’t work with words – as such
And yet you always found a way
To make your point, and have your say
You make your mark on every man
And woman when you kissed their hand
And nearly everyone you’ve met
Has felt a Hug they’ll not forget
You values love much more that gold
And gave it back a hundred-fold
And what way should we guage success?
By fortune, fame or cleverness?
You never had a car or house
Nor took upon yourself a spouse!
No big exams or high degrees –
You hadn’t any need for these
And yet we find when we look again
A message clearer now than then
A lesson loud at every turn –
You had so much more to teach than learn
Your smile said better than words could say
Life’s not all work, make time to play
And if we love as love we should
Then show that love to all the world.
And now, Petes we can sing your song
Forty Easter Sundays long
