Punch - a Children's
Hour favourite.
By: Christopher Peake
There have been many dogs in my life. Some had strange names
But all loved to have walks, chase sticks and play games.
One came from a house on a road in the town
And he lived with us in mid County Down.
In the town he chased cars and postmen too,
But life in the country was something new.
Out in the fields he sniffed around
And soon he ran some sheep to ground.
He had to go back to his city home
As he was not safe in the fields to roam.
But a person there put his name in books
Because of his surprising talents and rather good looks.
A radio programme told about Puddy and Bunch
They sound like something you'd eat for lunch
But we knew 'twas our dog Punch we'd had before
When we lived in the house in the fields near the shore.
