Cowboys and Indians
By Christopher Peake

Cowboys and Indians. Blood - brothers to me,
You know the rules. We stop playing before tea.
In those sunlight days time seemed to be longer
And the heat from the sun was somewhat stronger.

The house where we stayed looked down over the sea
Half way between Bangor and Donaghadee.
There were people about - all over the house
No room for another - not even a mouse.

All of us ran down the field waving our swords
Their army was larger. Honest . There were hoards.
We battled till the sun was high in the sky
And we got so hot we just wanted to die.

When our mothers called " Lunch " we ran up the hill
Though maybe there's some of them fighting there still.
Round a great big table we sat down to eat
Even those who'd been scalped could perform this feat.
