Chessman & Home
Computer
By Dan Eggs
We鈥檙e chessmen 鈥 sitting in the study
鈥
on the table 鈥 close to the window 鈥
the humans move us around after dinner.
(Y鈥檏now) as yet we don鈥檛 know anybody.
This room. Books, curtains, computer,
keyboard, printer 鈥 trays full of papers
the letter box sent her. Why she鈥檚 called
鈥淏aby Blue鈥 we cant be certain . . .
The place is so quiet 鈥
they鈥檝e gone to bed.
Clock chimes
tick, tock, tick . . .
midnight . . .
she clears her head . . .
darkness . . .
keyboard, mouse, click . . .
Baby blues electric
her screen glistens
we are chessmen
we are wood
we listen.
