A Tribute To My
Wife, Maria
By Joe Donnelly
As a full enchanted youngman,I was lost in a Heavenly
way,
No thoughts, no worries, none at all, darkened me everyday.
The sun by day, the stars at night, a most romantic moon.
How could I know, or realise, that me life would change so soon.
听
Like every other pal o' mine, I enjoyed life to
the brim,
Playin' football in the streets by day, kept our bodies trim,
Till sundown came, an brought our thoughts, to another pretty
game,
How can it be that a colleen rare, a reckless heart can tame,
听
It took me long to discover, what a maidens love
could mean,
Emotions, till then unknown, fires o' rapture, proud an' clean.
A face, framed in a halo, with a smile that casts a spell,
A voice that wished me happiness, everlastin' love as well.
听
I met her in an english town, where fer work I
had to roam,
An' soon found out, that both of us, were very far from home,
She couldn't speak good english, she had a foreign tongue,
But her face was that of an angel, like a song, proudly sung.
Soon we became a lovin' pair, with a great love, bonded strong,
We realised our destinys, were chained, our whole lives long.
We returned then to ol' Belfast, she was me sweetest bonnie
bride,
Me family fell in love with her, me heart swelled up in pride.
听
It wasn't long till me sweetheart, placed her
baby in me arms,
Me eyes filled with burnin' tears, holdin' that wee bundle o'
charms,
But soon I held more bundles o' joy, altogether there were four,
An' without a job in Belfast, we were forced to leave Irelands
shore.
听
We travelled to her homeland, where I learned
to speak her tongue,
Work was abundant there fer me, an' we were oh so very young,
An' soon we bought a piece o' land, an' built our own wee home,
I knew I was settled down fer life, never more to roam.
听
Many years have passed by since then, an both
of us are old,
Our love has ne'er diminished, before God that can be told.
Our children were the chain o' gold, that held us bound together,
Fifty years of ups an' downs, true Love conquerin' stormy weather.
