An Old Mans' Dream
By Davy Manderson
It has mattered little - where she did look
She has just been unable - to fill her book
As every shop visited - it's always the same
When she doesn't get any - it drives her insane
听
Especially when at one time - they were offered
free
To purchases of goods - like you and me
By most shop owners - in a voice that was gruff
When handing yo some - if you bought their stuff
听
Although most of them didn't - like giving you
many
Trying to judge the amount given - to the nearest penny
As they had to buy them - as part of some scheme
They didn't get them free - as it would seem
听
But it appears today - you can't get them now
But let me know - if you find out how
As she still needs some - to complete her book
Roughly half a page - when I had a look
听
I think they've stopped them - just like you know
Remember the quarter - they used to have in the Co
And with their scarcity - I've been taking some flak
From the oul bitch - she's been on my back
听
And she's had no luck - trying these to obtain
She's tried everywhere - but always in vain
As all the shops in the streets - to which she tramps
She's been unable to get - her Green Shield Stamps.
