Name/aka: Rachelle Craig, 29

Hometown: Strabane

Home region: North Donegal. West in the summer.

How long you surfing? Since July 2006

3 sentences that describe you/what you do:
Mission in life is to reap life's benefits and watch as little TV as possible.

Motivated - one of those people with a 5 year plan. I am a bit like Chandler Bing - a job in an office but no-one understands what I do. Am employed as a Corporate Policy Officer, am a Chartered Company Secretary and deal with Corporate Governance stuff.

Where/Why did you start surfing?

Where and why did you start surfing?
After years and years of snowboarding and skiing, travelling far and wide for outdoor related kicks, I finally realised that there was soo much fun on my doorstep (with less of the financial pain and sore falls). Have a family mobile home. Initially looked like a fun way to keep me occupied in the summer when the winter holidays were a distant possibility.

Any surfing honours, comp wins etc?
Does winning the ladies gloves, rash vest and wetsuit at the recent surfism event count?

Your fave board: quiver me timbers?
A big pink foam bodyglove monster. love it. Rosy custom made mini mal and fat boy flier due August 07 (All around 7ft) (Still learning).

"Surfing is getting more popular in Ireland for sure". Discuss:
Whether it is people escaping the stress and strain of a fast paced, commercial and technological society and reacquainting themselves with nature, am not sure. Being close to nature is definitely good for the soul. Is it a kinda modern spiritual renaissance?. Popularity may be related to the growth in disposable income, the decline of community and the increased individualistic hedonistic pursuit of happiness. Nevertheless, enhanced media /communication links are definitely make surfing more accessible and current and, ironically forming communities in a non traditional way.

Still takes a unique type of person to surf so unless humans all glean the same personality traits I think that we are safe from mass migration into the sea.

Definitely feel that surfing is one of Ireland most unexplored outdoor activities and it has major tourism potential. I am just sorry that it has taken me so long to find it.

Favourite Surfer/s and why:
I don't know enough about female surfers to give a rational answer to this. So I am going to say Cameron Diaz. She is older than me, loves to Surf and Snowboard. Seems to have her priorities in order and when splitting up with Justin Timberlake runs to the comfort of Kelly Slater for days in the waves to mend her broken spirit! Sounds like a good plan to me.

Best thing about surfing:
How insignificant the big waves make me feel, it puts life in perspective. I also love the energy surfing gives me.

Your top music/reading/movies/tv/radio, surf or otherwise:
Music:
Seen the 4 of Us at the Alley Theatre in Strabane recently, bought a couple of their albums and they are fab. Usual - Chillis, JJ, White Stripes,

Reading: Read the book "When Dreams May Come". Its about life after death.

Movies: Anything with Adam Sandler in it.(Loved big Daddy and Scuba Steve) Click

TV: Don't watch much tv.

Radio: Has to be Mark Patterson

Any ambition as a surfer?
