Letter from Lord Carson to Elizabeth McGahey, the mother of six brothers who joined the army, sent around December 1914.

"It gave me great pleasure to learn that your six sons have joined the Army – three of them in the Ulster Division of Lord Kitchener's Army, one in the 6th Battalion Inniskillings, one in the 3rd Battalion, and one at the front with the Canadian contingent. You must be very proud of the record of your family. I am sure that your brave lads will cover themselves with renown, and will fully maintain the great Ulster traditions of devotion to their King and country, undaunted courage in the face of their enemies, and a stubborn endurance of all the trials which await them. Your sons have set a fine example for others to follow, and I hope they will all return to you in safety at the end of the war. I shall be glad if you will tell them that they have my best wishes in the noble task they have undertaken."
