Twelve year old newsOver a three week period Community Journalists Andrew Barton and Adam Tomlinson spent time in a ‘Citizenship lesson,’ at Archbishop Holgate’s School in York, finding out exactly what the grown ups of the future think a good citizen is.
|
| | In Week One the class of Twelve year olds debated things that affect them on a daily basis. They discussed extremism, the environment, healthy eating and, surprisingly, buses!

In the following Citizenship class they wereÌýgiven the chance to write their own news bulletins. The pupils chose topical news stories and re-wrote them in the way they thought they should be told. Adam and Andrew showed them examples of news bulletins written at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio York and explained a little about the format of writing a news bulletin. Then, in a news studio put together in the classroom, the groups were divided into news readers and reporters. Each group then conducted its own bulletin.

katie I was involved in this project and it was a useful lesson, letting us have our say about the things in the world, instead of having other people say what they think we think. I really got to express my views, and didn't hold back at all, they should have more things like this going on in schools, then they can get advice from the people who are going to be living in the world as proper citezens. Thankyou for all the work you have done with us it was a great experience. Thankyou both Adam and Andrew!!!It was great!!
