The Call are Neil Chapman (vocals & Guitar), Steward Corlett (bass), Joel Hood (drums) and Wayne Tench (guitar) - four friendly chaps from Ripon who've come together to make beautiful music with a catchy pop feel. On Saturday 13th May they played a superb acoustic session for More Raw, you can of course listen again to that right here using the links at the top right. Q: How long have you been going, and how many gigs have you had to play to get where you are today? "We've been practicing in Neil's garage for about three years, and we've played ridiculous amounts of gigs. It will be in the hundreds each year. "We went through a stage of just trying to play everywhere but we ended up being in Leicester one night, then Manchester, then Leeds; we spread ourselves a bit thin. | "We went through a stage of just trying to play everywhere but we spread ourselves a bit thin. "Now we're trying to focus in on Leeds and York to build a following. People are starting to come to the gigs now, they're wanting us to headline places like the Vine in Leeds." Q: So just what constitutes a following, how many people do you need? "It's when you're consistently playing to a room full of people and then at the end of the night there's 20 people who want to buy a CD. When dealing with promoters it's nice when they know which bands go well together, then you can start to share each other's fans. "We've got a couple of hundred people on the forum. I always thought it was a bit geeky doing that sort of thing, but with so many people involved we can get in touch really easily. "It helps get people to the gigs. And it becomes like a little community, without sounding too gushy, people to talk to each other and that's how it works really." Q: So have you passed the stage where it's just your mates coming to see you play? "Yeah, I think it's more like our mates ask their mates who bring their mates along. A good example is the girls in York. There's a load of student nurses in York, who are friends of friends, and they've come along to a few gigs and are starting to bring their friends. "It's like a new posse of fans now so it's good." "We're not an offensive band, you don't have to like a particular genre of music to like us. It's like a good pop show when we play live. So most people who like decent chord structures and quite straight forward good songs can get into us that way." Q: If you had to compare The Call to another band, who would it be? "We've been likened to Stereophonics, Travis and even Coldplay. It's more than flattering to be compared to those three. But we're in that genre, I suppose at the moment you'd say Snow Patrol as well. "We like to think of our stuff as credible pop music."
