It isn't Superman after all (sorry), it's one of the many gorgeous species of bird that we have gracing the North Yorkshire skies! But do you know which? Did you know?The Hen HarrierMale hen harriers are pale grey with black on the ends of their wings. The females are larger and are mostly a browny/buff colour. Length: 45-55cm. More tipsTry to keep your distance from birds and avoid disturbing them. Keep your dog on a short lead on most areas of open country and common land between 1 March and 31 July. If you've been watching the Springwatch series on 大象传媒 Two it's likely that you've seen plenty of different types of bird that they've been keeping a watchful eye on. And if your love of nature sees you out and about in the North Yorkshire countryside, you might find yourself wondering just what type of bird you might have seen. Was it a Kestrel? Or perhaps a Ring ouzel? If you don't know - or maybe just can't decide - the RSPB have put together a really handy guide to try and help.
The handy guide - entitled 'Upland Birds: A walker's guide' - is packed with useful tips and an illustrated guide to some of the birds you might see frequently, depending on where you are. There are some interesting details about The Countryside Code, ways you can help protect endangered birds as well as the chance to get hold of a more in-depth booklet, also produced by the RSPB.
