Beached Academy Details | Entry: Free Open: All ages between 16 and 65 Dates: 7th August - 11th August Venue: The University of Hull, Scarborough Campus, Filey Road, Scarborough |
Organisers of H20:Beached have set up a new innovation for this year's festival and everyone is welcome. Whether your a teenage sensation in the waiting or an old rocker, at Beached Academy you'll learn the lot. Bright Possibilities The new academy which runs from 7th to 11th August at the Scarborough campus of the University of Hull gives a valuable look at how the music business works. There are two routes into the Academy either as an artist or as a non-musician fascinated by the opportunities the music industry has to offer.
| Be prepared for the media moguls |
The budding musicians will be learning the skills of recording, media training and legal advice. The non-artists will delve into the world of lighting design, video production and promotion. Professionals The Academy is also host to an array of talent direct from the industry. Dave Laudat, a professional session singer and the UK's premier vocal coach will be spending time at the Academy. Dave is currently working with Simon Cowell's team on X-Factor and has coached the likes of George Michael, Take That and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.

Other guests so far have included Mark Richardson, the drummer from Welsh rock outfit Feeder and Toby Jepson, of Scarborough's Little Angels. The project is free to participate in and is targeted towards Scarborough's Barrowcliff, Castle, Eastfield, Falsgrave and Edgehill communities. "The non-artists will delve into the world of lighting design, video production and promotion." | |
The climax of the Academy will see participants either performing at or working on the festival in August. Get Involved Mike Lynskey, Managing Director of Beached is very pleased with the progress so far. "We've got around 30 students at the Academy between the ages of 16 and 54. It's basically an open thing where people can come down and be taught by industry professionals rather than people who specialise in just doing workshops for kids", said Mike. He believes it's very interesting opening people's minds up to the idea of working in the music industry in a non-musical sense.

"It's true that 90% of jobs available in music are not for musicians but for people like caterers, doorstaff and scaffolders, jobs which you would have never thought you could get into." So if you think you're fit to lace Noel Gallagher's boots, rock out like the Who, play the guitar like Jimmi Hendrix or conduct the Pink Floyd light show, Beached Academy is a great start! |
