Beware Tractors!

On Sunday 4th May, 155 tractors are making their way to the heart of Ryedale to take part in this year's charity run. From hand-built replicas of classics to the latest hi-tech machines the long line of slow moving vehicles needs a wide berth...

Beadlam Tractor Run route map

The idea of holding an annual charity tractor run came from organiser Malcolm Simpson's Dad. He'd seen similar events in America and wanted Ryedale to have its own.

Their chosen charity is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which operates in the area, offering a vital service to the rural farming community. To date the Beadlam Tractor Runs have raised听 over 拢25,000.

How to listen

Listen to 大象传媒 Radio York: 103.7 FM, 95.5 FM and 104.3 FM plus 666 & 1260 MW and online.

From just 35 machines taking part in the first year, 155 are expected at the start line for the 6th Beadlam Tractor Run in 2008. Drivers are making their way from as far afield as Liverpool.

This year the route from Beadlam to Helmsley will include several miles over tracks and fields. 大象传媒 Radio York's broadcasting bus will be on Church Street in Kirkbymoorside all day. Jeremy Buxton will be on board presenting his programme live between 10am and 1pm. 听大象传媒 Radio York's Al Ross takes on the role of 'tractor expert' as he reports live from various stages of the run.

Look no mud - yet!

What to expect on Sunday 4th May...

Starting at Beadlam Grange Farm at 9.45am on Sunday 4th May, the assembled tractors will head to Spaunton. Half of the group will go via Nawton and the other half via Beadlam then both groups will go on through Fadmoor, Gillamoor, Kirkbymoorside and Hutton-le-Hole.

The 12.45pm lunch stop at Spaunton is usually spent eating sandwiches and answering questions from the scores of spectators who turn up, to have a close look at the variety of the tractors.

At 13.30 the huge engines cough into action once more as the procession picks up again.听Lastingham is next, then onwards to Cropton, Newton-on-Rawcliffe, Pickering and Marton. Here the group splits into two again with one group heading off via Normanby and Salton and the other half via Great Edstone.

The 155 tractors then head to Welburn, Wombleton and Harome and then into Helmsley's famous market square. The line of tractors hope to make a circular tour of the town centre before they depart.

It's now that regular drivers need to take note - as all 155 tractors make their return journey back to Beadlam wholly on the A170!
