Clocking up some cash!If you've always wondered where your donations to Children In Need go and if it's spent locally, well rest assured as Thirsk Clock received a grant. The young people who use The Clock tell us what it's all about... The Thirsk Clock is a youth work charity and they were awarded a grant of 拢112,569 spread over 3 years for the salary of a full time personal adviser and for ongoing running costs and activities. 大象传媒 Radio York's Elly Fiorentini presented the cheque to the young people and staff of Thirsk Clock ably assisted by none other than Pudsey Bear himself. Pudsey was delighted to see the money being so well spent and urged other groups and organisations in North Yorkshire to apply for grants themselves. Of course, the people who are most affected by the news are the young people who use the Thirsk Clock. So, here some of them tell us what it means to them. Taylor, age 17I have been coming to Thirsk Clock since it opened. It is a good way of showing young people encouraging young people to progress in their lives and showing them how. It also welcomes other members of the public and tourists. Thirsk Clock has a variety of activities and careers that you could look in to.
One of my best memories is of the Gorge walking trip I went on with Thirsk Clock. The staff took a group of us on the trip and we had great fun and learnt to work as a team. The staff are always willing to help and are always there if you need a chat. They encourage us and give us great support. They help us look at the good sides of life. Billy, age 15I use Thirsk Clock to meet others and socialise with my friends. I also come to Thirsk Clock during school, two days a week. We have been working towards the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and staff have also helped me to find out about what options I have for when I leave school this summer.听I am about to go to two interviews for York College and Leeds College of Building to do an Apprenticeship in tiling. Thirsk Clock is important to me because it is a good way to find out opportunities for after school.听It is also a good place to stay out of trouble.听There is not much to do around Thirsk and so you can come here in your free time and stay out of mischief. The staff here are really nice and always makes us feel welcome. I don鈥檛 like school and therefore I don鈥檛 attend or do my work very often. I feel a lot more comfortable at Thirsk Clock and have no problem with doing my school work here. I like to use the computers and play pool, I like it when I am asked to help the staff and when I am given responsibilities, like today I helped interview new members of staff. It made me feel important and l really enjoyed myself. If I was ever in trouble and needed some help I would definitely come to the staff at Thirsk Clock, I would trust the staff to help me. I enjoy the activities we do in the summer because I wouldn鈥檛 normally do these things. The bacon sandwiches are really nice! Steven, age 16I come to Thirsk Clock to use its facilities such as the pool table where we have pool competitions, Computers where we can use the Internet, Playstation and DVD player. I like playing on the Playstation as I don鈥檛 have one at home. I come to the Clock to meet my friends. Everybody Goes It鈥檚 a place where we can hang out as we have no where else to go. Its really boring living around here and there is nothing to do. The Clock put summer activities on every year, I really enjoy going on the trips it鈥檚 a good laugh. The staff are always helping me with my work; they helped me do a CV and are helping me to find a job. I do like the staff here they're pretty sound and know where I鈥檓 coming from. It鈥檚 so much better than doing nothing.听 last updated: 13/11/2008 at 17:03 You are in: North Yorkshire > Children In Need > Clocking up some cash! |
