You can only marvel at the driving skills of the men and women brave enough to drive across all kinds of terrain at the kind of speeds most of us wouldn't dream of doing on public roads. There is definitely an art to rally driving as you will see when you watch this short in-car video. Kicking up dirt At times the car seems to point in one direction whilst going in another. The noise from the engine is almost claustrophobic, it's so loud you can barely hear the navigator shouting instructions to the driver. The crunching, jarring sound of the car as it ploughs through the pot holes and of gravel hitting the underside of the vehicle is almost overwhelming! If you want to get the full rally experience, you should probably turn the sound up and if you can, use headphones whilst watching the video! Frazer Jones, from Ayr, is the driver. His navigator is Lee Burgess from Chesterfield. They are driving a Ford Fiesta ST and were competing in the British Rally Championship section of the event. Guy Wilks (Photo: Carl Walters) They finished in 14th place overall - and first in their class - with a time of 1:45:36, just over 17 minutes behind 1st placed Guy Wilks. By the way, don't get carried away after watching this. Please DO NOT try this at home. last updated: 17/10/07 You are in: North Yorkshire > Sport > Features > The art of rally driving... |
