She spoke to 大象传媒 Radio York's Adam Tomlinson about the last 60 years! Petula Clark's astonishing career began during World War II, when as a child she entertained the troops. Dubbed the 'British Shirley Temple' it's said she'd performed in over 200 shows by the time she was nine! She performed on the radio, in concerts and in the 1940's on television, but she didn't record her first song 'Music Music, Music' until 1949. This was the beginning of a recording career, which would result in almost 70 million records being sold worldwide and she has recorded over 1000 songs! Her hits include 'Downtown', 'Don't Sleep in the Subway', 'This is My Song' and 'I Couldn't Live Without Your Love' to name but a few. She conquered the American charts, one of only a few British female artists to do so, she's appeared in countless films and starred on the stage on both Broadway and in the West End. Not only has she had unrivalled success in the UK and US charts, she has recorded songs in five other languages, including French, the language of her adoptive country and has had hits all over Europe.
