Ade's Baghdad's Diary You are in: North Yorkshire > We love NY > Diaries > Baghdad blog I left York bound for Baghdad on a sunny day in July, not knowing the journey would become an epic. Within two weeks of arriving, I'd managed to see most of the key sights in the 'Green Zone'. Military tourism - I spent an afternoon checking out the famous landmarks in central Baghdad. I never thought l'd have takeaway in Baghdad, but there are other aspects to life that surprise me. I managed to spend quality time with soldiers from York, the evening concluded with a curry. Since arriving, I've been trying to get out of the Green Zone and into the Red Zone - real Baghdad. I visited soldiers on the other side of Baghdad. It's always hazardous, but so far we've been lucky. It is not all 'work and no play' in Iraq, everyone qualifies for Operational Stand Down or OSD. It is not often that the opportunity to fly to Babylon comes along, the cradle of civilisation . My time here has been the most uniquely challenging, dangerous and yet rewarding periods of my life.
