Nottingham Castle. Photo by Ian Bracegir If you were captured during battle this is where you might end up. Dancing, music and games have filled the Long Gallery with life for over 100 years. The castle's roof has a great view of Nottingham. Underneath the castle there are many man-made caves and tunnels, some of which are medieval. Mortimer's Hole is a 98 metre long man-made tunnel with a spooky past. Half way up castle rock is an outlet which was used a cannon position. Stand in the grounds of the historic Brewhouse Yard. Peer through the guard room's door to the castle's dungeon. These steps are the original stairway up to the main entrance of the Ducal palace. During the Victorian period the castle grounds were transformed into a recreational park. The gatehouse used to be the only external gate into the medieval castle. The Robin Hood statue stands in the former location of the castle's moat. last updated: 26/05/2009 at 15:39 SEE ALSO
