From nearly 7000 hopefuls Nottingham's Samantha Thompson
has been named in the top three 'High Street Honey's' in Britain.
The Sociology student, who was first entered
into the competition as a 聮birthday surprise聮 by her mum
and sister is delighted.
Once Samantha made it to the final 200 she
knew that she was onto a good thing, and the magazine asked her for
permission to use her photos!
Samantha was included in the next stage of the competition - the public
vote!
"It was a big rush to get votes in all ways we could think of.
We took posters out to lots of places, but they got stolen. We just
hoped it was by mass voting fans!" Samantha says.
When the phone call came, and Sam realised
that she was in fact down to the last 30, things really started to
become interesting.
As a serious contender she got to go to London to have bikini pictures
taken professionally. From the next cut numbers would dwindle to ten.
At this stage, Sam聮s family were as excited
as Sam about all of the attention it was attracting. However, Sam
felt that it was important to keep her feet on the ground.
Sam聮s older sister Cherry said: "Before the call came, Sam
said that if she didn聮t get through it would be okay because
she had so much to get on with at university and that she was still
young and had time to have a career."
On 7th October Sam did indeed make it to the top ten! Samantha聮s
elder sister said: "She just burst out crying and almost fell
over. Sam wanted to tell the whole world but she was sworn to secrecy
along with her close friends."
Naturally, Sam was delighted that she had done
so well, and especially looked forward to the other part of being
in the top ten - the chance to go to Gran Canaria for another photoshoot
and a documentary.
Sam prepared for her trip very quietly: "The morning I went it
was all very strange. I was a little nervous and everything seemed
to take three times as long, but I was very excited. I really made
the most of the experience and met some lovely people from the magazine
and TV crew.
The results of the High Street Honey competition was announced at
the weekend. Sam was delighted to be named as one of the top three
High Street Honey's in the country - a real modern day Maid Marian. |
