My Meadows - Qummar Javid
I have lived in The Meadows all my life. The shop has been here for two years; we basically started from scratch as the previous shop was burnt down.

The Meadows is a nice area to live and work in. All of my family live here, I know a lot of people, and there are a lot of friendly people about.

We have a good community relationship with our customers; mothers come in whose grand children I went to school with.

There’s a lot of good things happening in The Meadows: there’s an action group called AIM – Action In Meadows, they put on a festival in the summer; there’s also other voluntary organisations who put on festivals and events.

This is good for the area as it attracts a lot of people.

The bad side of The Meadows is obviously that it is a high-risk area and there is quite a lot of crime happening on a daily basis.

For example, houses are getting broken into, cars are getting stolen and smashed. Once our car window got smashed by some idiot running past, along with five others on our street. Nothing got taken, they just smashed the windows.

There are a few derelict buildings in the Meadows that need doing up. At the back of the memorial garden near the riverside, there is an old tennis court that is run down and no one uses it. This could be transformed into a five-aside Astroturf football pitch like a smaller version of the one on the Forest Recreation Ground.

They could put fences up around it and flood lights. It could be made into somewhere for kids to go.

People used to climb over the school fence and use their playground as somewhere to play but the police used to come down and tell them to move. I’m sure it would be well used by lots of people on a regular basis.
