I
enjoy working in the Meadows.
Overall it's interesting working in the Meadows area, there's a
lot of variety.
We deal with language barriers with asylum seekers, there's the
well publicised drug issues, along with kids in schools and old
age pensioners going to the Post Office - The usual town issues
alongside other issues that you don't get everywhere.
I'd like to see the Pride In The Meadows scheme become more effective
so more people have a sense of ownership in the community they live
in. This would hopefully bring a deeper respect for each other and
other peoples property which in turn would help reduce crime.
I'd say to local residents: 'don't be so afraid to come forward
with information'.
Some people do come forward on an informal basis which makes things
difficult from the police perspective when dealing with a community
problem. If more people did come forward the issues causing concerns
to the community could be dealt with more swiftly.
We are sensitive to why people are reluctant to volunteer information
but I can only urge people to do so in greater numbers as they will
benefit in the long term.
Over recent years there's been a lot of negative information broadcast
by the media in general about the Meadows and indeed some of the
issues covered have been significant locally. However, most of the
people in the Meadows only want to enjoy the area they live in and
the ever improving facilities available to them.
