So what do kids do with themselves in 2003? Play computer games, chill in front of the telly, pretend they're Eminem in front of the mirror.
We asked six children from the Nottingham Emmanuel School in Wilford to compile an audio diary.
They took recording equipment with them while they were at school and home.
Here are the results.
Kareem
"I am in the library coz I'm doing my mentor time. I have it three times a week coz I'm special."
"I've just been to drum club...I like it coz you get to slog the drums coz it just sounds heavy."
