Now, I have to put this in context. Us achondroplasics look to be on the chunky side at first glance. Short fat legs, with prominent backsides. But don鈥檛 make the mistake of thinking that this is all fat. Not in the slightest: it鈥檚 just the full complement of adult muscle, but squeezed onto a smaller frame. Or at least, that was always my story.
So I turn to you, gentle and well-toned Ouch! reader, for advice. How does a novice paraplegic maintain the trim figure of his dreams? Should I roll around the endless corridors of the WHO to get my weekly physical activity? Must I put my days of foie gras and pommes dauphinoise behind me? Or is there an easier and more comfortable way? Over to you ...

There's a dvd called Leanne's chair workout that my sister uses it gives simple exercises you could do from a seated position. You can have a look at [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]. hope it's useful.

mmm well Tom, as one who has had polio since a young kid I used to be superslim and as the years and impairments worked against me I seem to just be edging up....up...up..a little each day,ecah year, each decade! what can I say, I too love eating out at a nice French restaurant and enjoy the classy vino that I shouldnt spend my hard earned cash on.... but hey life is short and not so sweet a lot of time. I am watching this space for the gems of wisdom that will also change my upward direction! have just bought my younger boy a wii fit, maybe THAT could be disability adapted... what do you think?

Generally speaking, muscle is more metabolically active than fat, i.e. every pound of muscle burns far more calories just by existing as compared to fat and other body tissues. So, the supercharged arms and shoulders will actually work in your favour compared to if you were using an electric wheelchair.

I am currently looking at FES machienes. They stimulate muscles apparently muscles dont know the difference between you working them or electric currents stimlating them, that way you work muscles that your spinal cord cant.
I cant tell you if it is any good as i dont have one yet but if you were to log onto the spinal injuries forum there is a company called physio function that will answer questions. I think the machines cost 拢70 to hire for the first 2 months, you can then decide to buy (about 拢300) if it works, they take the hire charge off the cost or carry on renting or give it back if it isnt for you

Learn pilates, but with a serious instructor because it takes time to understand the consept. Ones you have learned it is Magic for core muscles, a training consept used both in rehab and for others, it works for all, I promise. Mona
