大象传媒 Worldwide in ground-breaking deal with CBS

大象传媒 Worldwide is bringing together two major forces in the stock footage market, following a landmark deal with CBS News. 大象传媒 Worldwide will commercially exploit stock footage from CBS News' extensive archive holdings as part of its current global library sales business. The new initiative will create the definitive stock footage resource and provide a hitherto unprecedented perspective on major world events.

In the agreement, announced today, 大象传媒 Worldwide will become the exclusive global sales agent for all CBS News footage and will market the CBS News archive alongside the 大象传媒's, through its successful 大象传媒 Library Sales division. This will provide international media professionals access to the world's leading moving image resource, with a combined archive of almost two million hours of footage.

The deal marks the association of two of the world's most highly respected and complementary international broadcast libraries, creating the leading player in the stock footage market, beating all current competition with respect to both quality and available content. 大象传媒 Worldwide's representation deal with CBS News will offer broadcasters and producers a broad perspective from both sides of the Atlantic on all news stories.

The total international stock footage market is currently valued at 拢200m and through this deal 大象传媒 Library Sales will focus on growing its presence in this business sector.

Rupert Gavin, Chief Executive, 大象传媒 Worldwide said, "This agreement is a defining moment for the international stock footage industry and illustrates the importance 大象传媒 Worldwide places on this business and its future development.

"Digital technology will open up countless new business opportunities hungry for archive content, and the capability to provide the media production industry with fast and comprehensive access to such a content resource is of paramount importance."

Mark Fricker, Director 大象传媒 Library Sales added: "This agreement makes 大象传媒 Worldwide the premier international supplier of archive content to media professionals.

"CBS News is a major force in news in the US and we are looking forward to working with them to realise the full value of their archive. With the combined resources of these two outstanding broadcast archives, we will offer clients throughout the world the benefit of 'one stop shopping' for all their archive content requirements."

Andrew Heyward, President, CBS News said, "We are extremely pleased to have 大象传媒 Worldwide, a renowned and respected organization, representing CBS News' legendary archive around the world. We know the material we've been producing for over 50 years will not only be in very capable hands, but will be shared with the world via state-of-the-art technology and delivery systems."

The CBS News archive is renowned for its coverage of major news events both from the American continent and internationally. Through its international news teams CBS News has covered the events of the last 50 years and is a comprehensive historic record with at least 700,000 hours of content.

Major historic news events that will be made available as a result of the deal include: more than 400 reels of tape shot in the four days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; the Vietnam War, the anti-war movement in the U.S. and the fall of Saigon; the civil rights movement of the 1960s; presidential campaigns and political conventions; the U.S. space program, its successes and failures, including the first man to land on the moon and the Challenger explosion; the Oklahoma City bombing; and, more recently, the events of September 11th. In all, the collection comprises more than two million videotapes and 66 million feet of film, including outtakes and other footage never used in on-air reports. The CBS News Archive is continually updated with the audio and video reporting of CBS News' award-winning production teams around the world.

The deal also includes the outstanding CBS News Audio Archive, a comprehensive library of radio news dating from 1933 to the present day. Whilst its main focus is news programming, bulletins and specials, the vast reservoir of material also includes the most complete collection of both allied and axis speeches of WWII and the famed show "War of the Worlds" by Orson Welles.
