The Biggest Big Brother So Far

It's official: Big Brother is bigger than ever. The compelling content of series 3, together with an increased implementation of interactive applications, have combined to build an even stronger brand.

Viewing figures have smashed those of both previous series, averaging at 5.7 million viewers throughout. Viewers have voted in their millions, clocking up a final grand total of more than 22.5 million votes - beating 17.5 million in the first series and 16 million last year.

Over 8.5 million votes were registered in the final week alone (beating 7.7 million in 2000 and 7 million in 2001), seeing Kate triumph as the first female winner of Big Brother UK. Jonny beat Alex to second place, with Jade not far behind in fourth place.

The grand total comprised almost 12 million telephone votes, over 5.4 million SMS votes and over 5.2 million iTV votes. It confirms that interactive formats are bigger than ever, as is the scope for integrating response channels. Audiocall provided all landline telephony services, constantly monitoring call figures and collating the text and iTV votes live at the Elstree studios every Friday night:

"Each week we had 5 minutes to close the voting lines, collate the votes and rush to report the final result to the Big Brother production team live on air," says Sarah Walker, Projects Manager, Audiocall.

Other telephony applications were provided by Audiocall to extend the brand experience to great effect. Call Big Brother's Little Brother invited callers to respond to Dermot O'Leary's question of the day on Big Brother's Little Brother, the accompanying programme. The service prompted over 25,000 calls. The programme also invited viewers to take part in votes (including Vote For Your Favourite Moment), which collectively clocked up 37,000 calls. In addition, the Big Brother Audioline gave callers access a live feed from the House, plus daily news up-dates and incorporated audio clips. A further option allowed callers to enter a weekly competition to win tickets to the eviction nights. The service generated over 40,000 calls.

BIG BROTHER 3 - THE VOTING HIGHLIGHTS:

The surprise, opening vote, where viewers chose which housemates they wanted to nominate, took more than half a million votes in the first 2 days alone, with Lynne and Jade receiving the majority. The first week's total vote count came to just over 1.2 million. The house-mates unanimously chose to evict Lynne.

When Alex and Spencer went head to head for eviction the public was truly torn. Both were extremely popular contestants, with huge followings amongst viewers. Just over 2.7 million people voted, the Alex camp trying to vote out Spencer and vice-versa. Spencer was narrowly pipped to the post, and received his marching orders.

When Adele faced the chop, a staggering 3.4 million viewers voted - the biggest ever Big Brother eviction vote outside of the final week. The end result saw Adele packing her bags.

The penultimate week said goodbye to Tim, after he went head-to-head with close friend Alex. Tim was unable to match the popularity of Alex and over 1.7 million voted.
