London’s
car ownership quirks
New
comprehensive research from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Top Gear Magazine (May issue on-sale
2nd April) has discovered London’s automobile affiliations.
The highest ownership of Rolls-Royces is to be found in Edgware
while London’s West End is the home to the most urban-use
Range Rovers.
St
John’s Wood and Little Venice have more Saab families than
anywhere else in the country. Chelsea Harbour has the most residentially
parked Porshes though Kensington and Notting Hill closely follow.
There’s a total of 33 Porshe 911s in east-central London,
very closely followed 32 Renault Scenics.
Fashionable media-type residents of Hoxton, east London, is the
best place to see car classics such as the Citreon DS and Fiat’s
124 Spider.
Though
it’s Westminster that suffers London’s worst car crime
(34 per 1000 population) but it does have the most residentially
parked new Jag XJ8s.
One
in five cars in Greater London is either automatic or semi-automatic.
Outside
of London, Milton Keynes has one of the biggest concentrations of
Smart cars (279) in the country with only certain London boroughs
pipping the post. The highest proportions of Cabriolets are to be
found heading west/south west out of central London where nearly
four percent of cars are convertibles – higher than Brighton
and Bournemouth.
Across
the UK, just over 7 million (7,108,902) people own a blue car making
it the most popular UK car colour. Red follows with just over 6.3
million (6,348,461) and silver is the third favourite with just
over 4 million (4,086,614). Pink is the least popular car colour
by far with only 4,751 owners. Multi-coloured cars (30,445 owners)
and cream (39,826 owners) are also way out of favour.
