dance moves The Office Series 2 straight to the top spot, breaking
records on the way!
Released
on Monday 20th October, the eagerly awaited DVD and video release
of The Office Series 2 has sold a massive 142,782 DVD copies in
its first week of sales, making it the new record holder for fastest
ever selling DVD of a TV series. This is a massive 74% increase
on last year's record breaking week one DVD sales for The Office
Series 1, which has gone on to sell a staggering 840,000 copies
to date.
This
means The Office Series 2 has stolen the DVD crown back from Phoenix
Nights Series 2 which sold 139,282 DVD units in its first week,
and initially held the record earlier this month. Phoenix Nights
had combined VHS and DVD sales of 159,929.
Ricky
Gervais was quick to comment: "I'm absolutely thrilled with
the sales figures and it feels great to be back on top!"
The
frenzied sales activity for The Office Series 2 kicked off on the
Monday with an enormous signing event at Virgin Megastore, Oxford
Street. Ricky Gervais, Lucy Davis, Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook
and Ewen MacIntosh were all on hand to reward the hundreds of fans
who queued for hours to get their new DVDs and videos signed.
Total
week one sales for The Office Series 2 were 160,458 (DVD and VHS
combined), the biggest and fastest selling week one figure for a
TV release and, in the run-up to Christmas, this figure is set to
soar. Stuart Snaith, Director of Video, Sponsorship and Events for
大象传媒 Worldwide commented: "We're well on track to hit the magic
million mark for Series 2, it's a brilliant series with some great
extras on the DVD."
The
continued success of 大象传媒 Worldwide DVD product bodes well for the
forthcoming line-up. A host of classic and contemporary comedy titles
on sale for Christmas include The League of Gentlemen Series 3,
a Fawlty Towers Collector's Edition DVD boxset, last year's acclaimed
Only Fools and Horses Christmas special called Strangers on the
Shore and Alan Partridge Series 2. On top of these, 大象传媒 Worldwide
will also be releasing a special Eastenders title called Slaters
in Detention, and an official Manchester United skills release called
Play Like Champions which features all the first team players in
action.
