21.11.03 Kennedy
anniversary commemorated with footage from 大象传媒 Library Sales
大象传媒
Library Sales, a division of 大象传媒 Worldwide Limited, has licensed
a wide range of Kennedy-era clips from the CBS News Archive for
use in new documentaries commemorating the 40th anniversary of the
assassination of President John F. Kennedy (November 22, 2003).
The
exceptional footage includes unparalleled coverage of national news
flashes, local reporting, special commissions, human-interest stories,
past speeches and many other aspects of John F. Kennedy's and Robert
F. Kennedy's lives - and deaths.
For
大象传媒 THREE's Kennedy Dynasty 大象传媒 Library Sales has supplied six minutes
of footage, including Jackie Kennedy giving a tour of the White
House, the Nixon/Kennedy TV debate, the search of JFK Junior's plane
wreckage and Walter Cronkite's emotional on-air announcement of
JFK's death.
大象传媒
News' production - Kennedy: Legend & Leader - will also utilise
footage of Walter Kronkite's announcement, together with a rare
interview conducted by him with JFK. This programme will also air
on 大象传媒 World.
In
the US, documentaries that have used Kennedy material include, "JFK:
Breaking the News," a retrospective produced by KERA-TV for
PBS on how the tragic events of 1963 were reported through Dallas
news affiliates and the national news media; "My Brother and
I," a Kunhardt Production for NBC on JFK from the perspective
of human rights; and "JFK Project" (working title), a
two-hour ABC television special from Peter Jennings Productions.
"JFK:
Breaking the News," is using local Dallas footage, as well
as other clips of media reports. "My Brother and I" has
accessed footage from the Kennedy presidency, including policy speeches,
footage of JFK at the Berlin Wall and RFK'S appointment as Attorney
General. Peter Jennings' "JFK Project" has requested clips
of Jim Garrison and Clay Shaw, the Warren Commission footage, Lyndon
B. Johnson's transition into office and CBS's interview with Oswald's
wife in 1964 among other material.
Award-winning
documentary filmmaker David Grubin, who has licensed related footage
for a PBS "American Experience" segment on RFK scheduled
to air next spring, said, "大象传媒 Library Sales was an indispensable
resource. Through the office in New York we were able to locate
and license unique archival footage such as the 1967 appearance
by RFK on 'Face the Nation' which we thought had long since fallen
out of the annals of broadcasting. What's available from the CBS
News Archive, via the 大象传媒, represents some of the best Kennedy material
available today."
"The
quality and range of footage we are able to offer from across the
大象传媒 archive and the CBS News Archive is without peer. The CBS News
Archive is considered the definitive resource for coverage and commentary
on everything to do with the Kennedys, from JFK's and RFK's assassinations
to the Kennedy's on the campaign trail, " added Mark Fricker,
Director 大象传媒 Library Sales.
The
majority of footage draws on the CBS News Archive, the most comprehensive
collection of coverage existing on Kennedy. The wealth of Kennedy
clips in the archive ranges from classic moments in television history,
such as CBS's first news flashes reporting that the president had
been shot and Walter Cronkite's emotional on-air announcement of
his death, to video recordings of prosecutor Jim Garrison and the
Warren Commission little seen since the 1970s. Much of the material
comes from the period during which CBS, in an unprecedented move,
suspended programming for 24 hours to keep the nation updated up
until JFK's funeral. The archive also features hours of reporting
by CBS's affiliate on the ground in Dallas.
