´óÏó´«Ã½ Worldwide Channels is delighted to announce that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ One feed of the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton will be made available to viewers of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Entertainment around the world on 29 April 2011.
The feed will be streamed live to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Entertainment channel across Asia, India, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East and will be broadcast on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Knowledge in Africa. Viewers in these territories will be able to tune in for an authentic British take on a very special British occasion.
"The Royal Wedding provides a special opportunity to bring together our local channels around the world for a truly global viewing event," said Jana Bennett, President Worldwide Networks and Global iPlayer. "William and Catherine's big day has captured the imagination of audiences around the world and I am proud that for the first time, millions of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Entertainment and ´óÏó´«Ã½ Knowledge viewers in Africa, Asia, India, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe can join together to watch the day unfold."
Acclaimed ´óÏó´«Ã½ newscaster Huw Edwards will lead the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s team of presenters as the day unfolds. Commenting on the news of his appointment, Edwards said: "I am delighted with the news and consider it a great honour to play a part in what I am sure will be a huge national celebration."
In recent years Edwards has been the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s anchor for major state occasions such as 2004's D-Day 60th anniversary, the Pope's visit, Trooping the Colour, the State Opening of Parliament, Festival of Remembrance and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Worldwide Channels will also be broadcasting a host of royal documentaries on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Knowledge in the lead up to the wedding. Programming is likely to include a retrospective of royal weddings throughout the decades, a look into the historic House of Windsor, the story of Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s relationship from their initial meeting at St. Andrews University to the present day, and a documentary that takes a closer look at Prince Charles’ work and the causes closest to his heart.
