RADIO SHEFFIELD

Blunkett Hints At PM Job

The Home Secretary David Blunkett has given the strongest indication yet that he is not interested in becoming Britain聮s first blind Prime Minister.

In an exclusive interview with 大象传媒 Radio Sheffield聮s Rony Robinson during the radio station聮s special series of features about visual impairment, Mr. Blunkett says he is unsure about how the public would respond to a blind person in Number 10.

"It聮s very difficult to ask the country to take the risk of a blind person becoming Prime Minister. I know what the PM does and how hard he works, and it makes me draw back from considering it. I mean you can't just do it for a year - you either do it full on or not at all," says the Home Secretary.

However, when pressed by Rony Robinson on whether he could go the extra mile and make Downing Street, Mr. Blunkett said: "Never say never."

The interview is to be broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio Sheffield today at 11.50am as part of 大象传媒 Radio Sheffield聮s Eye to Eye week.

Notes to Editors
