Fergie to
host new show as part of revamped Friday nights on Radio 1
Radio 1 today (Friday 15 March 2002) announces a new line up for
Friday nights with world renowned DJ Fergie hosting his own brand
new show as part of the revised schedule.
From
7 June, Pete Tong聮s Essential selection will be followed by
the Radio 1 Rap Show hosted by Tim Westwood. After Westwood聮s
show, Fergie will take over the airwaves with two hours of the finest
pumping dance music for fans nationwide. The new schedule will be
completed by Fabio and Grooverider bringing listeners two hours
of the hottest drum and bass around.
The
new schedule comes as Danny Rampling leaves Radio 1 to pursue his
international commitments including a new summer residency in Italy.
Danny said: "I want to travel so I can fulfil my international
requests, which I have sometimes had to say no to during the last
eight years whilst on Radio 1. I have enjoyed my time on the station,
but it is time to concentrate on the world."
Andy
Parfitt, Controller, Radio 1 said: "Danny is a real dance legend.
He has made an enormous contribution to Radio 1聮s reputation
in this arena, we wish him well with his continuing career."

about his new show Fergie said: "It聮s unbelievable, I
didn聮t think that things could have got any better but they
have - happy days!"
Executive
Producer For Dance, Matt Priest, said: "Fergie is the hottest
name in dance music right now. It is a real privilege to have him
on Radio 1 as part of the new Friday night line up, Fergie is a
real star, as a club DJ he is on fire at the moment and I聮m
sure he will make a great broadcaster."
Commenting
on his new timeslot Westwood added: "The only way to start
your weekend is with Radio 1. Having the Rap Show on Fridays at
9pm after Pete Tong is going be tremendous, it聮s going to blast
off real big. It聮s all about hip hop in 2002."
