Secret Agent - The True Story of Violette Szabo, Sunday 16 June, 大象传媒 ONE (West Midlands), 6.25pm

Brave, beautiful and deadly - a secret agent who seemed to have everything. The story of Violette Szabo could be taken straight from the pages of a spy novel.

In the Second World War she was part of a team, the like of which had never been seen before. The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was Winston Churchill's secret army. Only the best were chosen to join and Violette Szabo was amongst this select group.

Fluent in French, she was also reputedly the best shot in SOE. Her striking good looks were both an advantage and a curse in her role as a spy. Once seen, few men could forget her.

One of only four women to be directly awarded the George Cross for courage, her story became both a book and a film, but it's only now that the true story of this remarkable woman's life and death, at the hands of the German SS, can be revealed.

Three months ago, Herefordshire historian Howard Tuck made an amazing discovery in France which shed light on Violette's capture and subsequent death.

The 大象传媒 recognised the value of the find and a special investigation by 大象传媒 Midlands Today producers Dave Hart and Robin Punt began, resulting in this special and fascinating programme.

Howard Tuck said: "This is a story that needed to be told. When you start out on something like this you're never quite sure where it will lead. In this case, what we were able to discover was far beyond what we could hope for."
