ABOUT THE 大象传媒

大象传媒 welcomes positive planning decision on Broadcasting House

The 大象传媒 last night (27 June 2002) welcomed the decision of Westminster City Council's Major Planning Applications Committee to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of Broadcasting House.

John Smith, 大象传媒 Director of Finance, Property and Business Affairs said: "We are delighted that our application has been successful.

"
As a leading cultural and creative organisation the 大象传媒 has a significant role to play in commissioning great architecture and Richard MacCormac's inspiring and innovative designs for Broadcasting House reaffirm this.

"The development - the largest live broadcasting centre in the world - will provide a flexible and stimulating working environment for staff, and be welcoming for our audiences and local residents alike.

"From the iconic 1930's landmark building at its heart to the cutting edge technology of the new building this development positions the 大象传媒, London and Westminster at the heart of the global broadcasting community.

"
We have worked tirelessly with the council's planning department, residents and local amenity societies to respond sensitively to issues raised by them and are now looking forward to creating our shared vision for the area. We now look forward to concluding the planning agreement and taking the final proposal to the governors in September."

Chris Evans, Broadcasting House Project Director added: "The approval of this complex scheme in such a short space of time is a great credit to the professionalism of our team and the officers at Westminster. While we've been rightly pressed to refine several aspects of the design, Westminster have been very supportive of our desire to meet our business needs whilst maintaining the integrity of our design."

The scheme will be home to 大象传媒 Radio and Music, 大象传媒 World Service and 大象传媒 News.

It includes attractive new public spaces - including a public arcade linking Portland Place and Hallam Street through the building - which are designed to make the 大象传媒 more accessible and welcoming for visitors.

Digitally equipped for national and international radio, television and online, the scheme will be completed in 2007.
