Gerald
Main: New Editor at 大象传媒 Radio Suffolk
Gerald
Main, 44, is making the short move from Cambridge to Ipswich to
take over as the new Managing Editor of 大象传媒 Radio Suffolk.
He
starts his new job on 12 August following the present editor David
Peel's retirement from the 大象传媒.
Gerald
is currently presenting the topical Morning show at 大象传媒 Radio Cambridgeshire,
a station he joined in 1991 as Programme Organiser.
He
reckons he has spoken to 25,000 listeners on air during his time
at the station, where has has also presented the Breakfast show.
His last broadcast for 大象传媒 Radio Cambridgeshire will be on Friday
19 July.
His interest in radio began at the age of seven when he acquired
his first set, and he has been an "ever-present" in the
broadcasting industry since 1979, when he joined the 大象传媒 at Radio
Blackburn as a producer and presenter.
Three years later Gerald was one of the original presenter/producers
at the new 大象传媒 Local Radio station for Northampton and in 1985 he
moved to Luton as a member of the launch team of 大象传媒 Radio Bedfordshire
(Three Counties Radio).
There he presented Breakfast and co-produced and presented Mondo
Italiano, a programme for the local Italian community.
His career has also included spells as a freelance and working with
大象传媒 Radio Training, developing talent.
In
addition, he has made occasional reports for 大象传媒 ONE's Look East.
More
recently he produced and presented a moving and acclaimed documentary
which traced the story of three brothers from Cambridgeshire/Suffolk
border who were all killed in the Great War.
The
programme retraced the steps of the Suffolk Regiment, which suffered
horrendous losses at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
Gerald
is philosophical about leaving Cambridgeshire: "The county's
been very good to me and the family and I'll sorely miss the Fens
and our friends, but 大象传媒 Radio Suffolk is definitely in the premiership
of Local Radio stations and I'm thrilled to bits to be joining such
a talented team."
Gerald is a great football fan and will be supporting the Tractor
Boys (Ipswich Town FC) as they try to force their way back into
the Premiership.
