Radio Derby launches the station's annual charity appeal Money Mountain
2002 today (Tuesday 23 July).
Now
in its 19th year, Money Mountain has raised nearly 拢900,000
for local charities.
Last
year, Money Mountain 2001 raised 拢46,379, which funded the
replacement of Amber Valley Community Transport's phone and booking
system, re-equipped the Rebecca Court Women's Refuge and provided
three electro-cardiograph machines for the heart unit at Queen's
Hospital in Burton.
Members
of the station's Local Advisory Council have selected this year's
beneficiaries from local charitable organisations who have put themselves
forward for consideration.

Radio Derby is pleased to announce that the beneficiaries for Money
Mountain 2002 are:
When
You Wish Upon a Star: They'll receive two thirds of the money
raised.
They
help turn dreams into reality for local children between the ages
of two and 16, who have a life threatening or terminal illness.
This
year they are hoping to take a minimum of 20 children from Derbyshire
to Lapland and next year they want to take ten Derbyshire families
for a well-earned rest to Center Parcs.
SCALE
(Sound Creation Advancing Learning and Education for Special Needs):
Provides music therapy free of charge for those with profound and
severe learning difficulties.
Some
of the potential benefits for those involved are development of
communication skills plus improved quality of life and self esteem
for people who currently have limited ways of interacting with the
world around them.
Fundraising
events and activities will be organised throughout the coming months,
but the main focus of the appeal is an on-air auction.
In
a change of approach this year, the station has decided to hold
the traditional on-air auction on one day - Sunday 13 October.
The
auction will start with the ever popular Dial a Hymn feature where
listeners can request a dedication or message with a choice of hymn.
The
station has also decided to freshen this year's appeal with a new
idea that will add to the ways in which people can participate.
Listeners
are invited to "Send A Pound" to swell the total. If every
listener sends in a 拢1 coin* it would raise around a quarter
of a million pounds for the two worthy causes!
Simon
Cornes, the new Editor of 大象传媒 Radio Derby, says: "It's obvious
that Money Mountain has made a big impact on the communities of
Derbyshire and East Staffordshire in past years - thanks to the
generosity of our listeners and local businesses.
"I'm
looking forward to being involved in the new look appeal and getting
caught up in the excitement and enthusiasm that it obviously generates."

Radio Derby is also asking for the donation of new goods or services
that it can auction for cash on 13 October.
