大象传媒
Drama To Produce A Daily Soap Drama for the 大象传媒 Asian Network
大象传媒 Drama is to produce the first ever daily Asian soap for one
of the 大象传媒's new digital radio channels, The Asian Network.
The channel will launch on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) in the
Autumn and is expected to begin broadcasting the serial from June
2003.
This ambitious project will create job opportunities for experienced
and new Asian talent across editorial, research, writing, acting
and production.
A fresh team and fresh talent will make this unmissable listening
for Asian communities across the UK.
Over 拢1 million is being invested in the project, which will
provide five daily episodes broadcast Monday-to-Friday and repeated
as an omnibus at the weekend.
Gordon House, Head of Radio Drama, said: "I'm delighted that
the 大象传媒 is showing its commitment to the Asian Network by commissioning
a radio soap across the week.
"The serial offers us a chance to develop new writing, acting
and directing talent from the British Asian communities while giving
the Asian Network a daily programme which will, we hope, become
a fixed point in people's lives.
"The series is going to be about young Asians living in a neighbourhood
in the Midlands; but it's also going to about their families and
friends who may live anywhere across the UK.
"It's going to be realistic, entertaining, with reflections
on the challenges that face the British Asian community in their
daily lives. And it will also be a lot of fun."
Vijay Sharma, Head of The Asian Network, said: "This is great
news for The Asian Network as we expect the soap to become a key
part of how we explore the lives and concerns of Asians across the
country.
"Good soaps have a powerful connection with their audiences
and this is fundamental to our aims in broadcasting to the diverse
communities that live in Britain. We want to interact fully with
our listeners and we want to have our finger on the pulse of contemporary,
urban life - this new soap can help us do exactly that."
