New
writers announced for the 大象传媒i sitcom Cleaners
The
writing team for Cleaners has now been chosen. Seven writers (five
individuals and a duo) were selected from over 300 entries for the
new writing initiative that has been developed on the web through
大象传媒i.
The
lucky seven, who will not meet face-to-face until the final draft
of the script in November, are Angela Churm and Christine Hall from
Derbyshire, Richard Fair also from Derbyshire, Barry Hutchinson
from Inverness-shire, Carolyn Reid from Newcastle upon Tyne, Debbie
Giggle from Norfolk and Tim Williamson from Twickenham.
"We
were very pleased with the number of entries, and the quality of
the rest," said Miche谩l Jacob, the 大象传媒's comedy development
editor.
"Some
entries really stood out, and choosing the final team led to a lot
of debate among the editorial group. What distinguished the winners
from the rest was the way in which they took the characters and
situation we supplied, and added comic imagination."
The
selection criteria were that the audition scenes should have a dramatic
shape, derive humour from the characters rather than providing a
string of gags, and make the editorial group laugh.
The
writers will 'meet' for the first time in their private room (online)
on Monday, 12 August 2002, to spend a week discussing the characters
and situation so that, when storylining begins the following week,
it will be on an agreed basis.
They
will be given a brief episode description on which to base their
story.
The
project will then move on through the writing process, with the
team being given editorial notes and guidance throughout. They will
meet physically for the first time when the script is read by actors
in London during the week beginning 4 November 2002, and the finished
script is due for completion by 15 November.
