WALES

Capture Wales comes to Newport

Have you got a story you'd like to tell?

大象传媒 Wales is running a free digital storytelling workshop in the Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre, Newport, in September where people can transfer their tales from brain to screen.

Part of the Capture Wales initiative - a unique project from 大象传媒 Wales in partnership with Cardiff University - the workshop is aimed at creating a vivid self-portrait of Newport through digital stories told by the people who live in the area.

"Digital storytelling uses new technology to help people tell their own, personal tales in a new way," explains 大象传媒 Wales Editor, New Media Mandy Rose.

"Workshops like this are being held in communities across Wales, over the next three years, gathering a wide range of stories from people from all walks of life."

During the five-day workshop people are introduced to a range of technology using computers, images and editing software, digital cameras and sound recording equipment.

Each participant creates a short, rich media piece, to tell their story in their own style.

These mini-documentaries may be shown on 大象传媒 Wales' Capture Wales website and some may appear on television in the future.

The workshop is free, but places are limited and by application only.

大象传媒 Wales is running a presentation evening for people who want to know more at The Dolman Theatre, Kingsway, Newport on Thursday 29 August, between 6.00 and 8.00pm.

"It's a chance to see some of the terrific and often moving stories that have been made to date, find out about the workshop process, and pick up an application form for the Newport workshop, which starts on 12 September," adds Mandy Rose.

Digital stories are available to view by visiting the Capture Wales website at .
