大象传媒
ONE opens a window on the world in Autumn 2002 season
Full press pack available
From the natural kingdom to the corridors of power, from civilisations
of the past to communities of today - 大象传媒 ONE opens a window on
worlds new and old in a 拢243 million autumn season.
For
the first time in television history, cameras will explore a world
tantalisingly glimpsed in the award-winning Blue Planet as 大象传媒 ONE
goes to the bottom of the ocean for one incredible evening of live
broadcasting.
Tiny submersibles search for the amazing creatures that live, undisturbed,
more than a mile below the earth's surface in The Abyss - Live.
Cracking Crime is a detailed investigation into the true
picture of crime in the UK. For one day much of the channel's daytime
and all its peaktime schedules will be given over to programming
that aims to dispel the myths and explore the realities of crime.
Nick Ross and Fiona Bruce will front an event that connects audiences
to one of the biggest political and social issues of today, supported
by network radio, 大象传媒i as well as 大象传媒 local radio and regional television.
Discussions,
practical advice, personal stories and even a chance for viewers
to play judge and vote for the sentence they feel a crime deserves
will all be part of the day.
To accompany Cracking Crime, 大象传媒 ONE also screens its first wholly
improvised drama, Out of Control - writer/director Dominic
Savage's gritty film dealing with life on the inside for four young
offenders.
This
autumn, history comes to 大象传媒 ONE as one of the seven wonders of
the ancient world is brought gloriously to life in Pyramid,
with drama, reconstruction and stunning special effects produced
by the team that made the film Gladiator.
Building
on the television programme will come two pioneering new media developments
for digital and online users: Pyramid Challenge incorporates
the world's first interactive tv adventure story and a cross-platform
game with clues hidden in the programme itself.
David
Attenborough celebrates 50 years of passionate storytelling
with an exuberant new odyssey into the Life of Mammals, taking
viewers closer than ever before to the species which outlived the
dinosaur and conquered the planet.
For
digital viewers the series is also accompanied by groundbreaking
interactive games and detailed scientific information.
In Moses Jeremy Bowen goes in search of the sensational truth
at the heart of the story of the influential law-giver, liberator
and spiritual leader who helped transform the course of history.
The
team behind Son of God uses the latest scientific fact, archaeological
and historical evidence to rebuild his life and world.
The Project is a new hard-hitting drama set against the backdrop
of real events which charts the rise of New Labour and follows the
lives of three young activists as they set out to help Labour get
into power.
Brought
to 大象传媒 ONE from the team that made the award-winning drama Warriors,
their journey takes us into the world of New Labour's headquarters
in Millbank, and later Downing Street itself.
Insatiable adventurer Michael Palin returns to television to embark
upon the greatest challenge facing an intrepid explorer - crossing
the vast and merciless expanses of the desert in Sahara with
Michael Palin.
This
autumn 大象传媒 ONE offers an alternative, irreverent history of modern
Britain and of one man: athlete, statesman and man of letters with
Jeffrey Archer - The Truth.
Based
on fact but portrayed in fiction, it stars Damian Lewis as Archer,
Greta Scacchi as Margaret Thatcher and is written and directed by
Guy Jenkin.
Harry Enfield returns to 大象传媒 ONE in Celeb, written by the
creators of the Private Eye cartoon strip of the same name. Harry
Enfield stars as stadium rock superstar Gary Bloke and Amanda Holden
as his trophy wife.

From the pen of Men Behaving Badly creator Simon Nye comes a darkly
comic tale of the bizarre characters and strange goings on in a
fictional coastal community. Dawn French stars in Wild West.
Lorraine
Heggessey, Controller of 大象传媒 ONE, said: "大象传媒 ONE has been
growing in confidence and range, and the foundations of a strong
and mixed schedule are now in place.
"But the success we've had doesn't give us permission to relax,
it inspires us to reach higher and wider.
"Audiences want 大象传媒 ONE to move with the times, be more relevant,
more contemporary, more challenging but they also don't want to
lose the things they like best about the channel.
"The trick is to do both - and I think we're about half way
there, this season you're beginning to see 大象传媒 ONE as it should
be with a well balanced mix of programmes.
"大象传媒 ONE should reflect contemporary society and the issues
that affect us all - in fact and in fiction.
"This autumn, we've worked hard to do that and we look forward
to seeing the viewers response to this stimulating season."
September 11th
"They
say there is always a witness for history. I guess that day, we
were chosen to be the witness." Jules Naudet
On
the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks that sent shockwaves
round the world, 大象传媒 ONE offers a range of programmes to mark, question
and commemorate.
But
none will have greater impact than 9/11.
On
September 11th 2001, brothers Jules and Gedeon Naudet were in New
York making a documentary about a rookie fire-fighter based near
the World Trade Centre.
The
two brothers were in and around the Twin Towers as the hijacked
planes struck and captured on film the first moment of impact and
the chaos that followed.
This incredible documentary draws on over 180 hours of footage and,
while being a stark reminder of the world's most serious terrorist
attack, is a tribute to the heroism of New York's firefighters and
to all those who lost their lives.
Details of other programmes across all 大象传媒 services are available.
