The Happy Couples
Kerry
& Keith
Kerry
(23) works as a senior chamber maid in the Waterside Inn, Peterhead.
Keith (23) works in the family garage in Peterhead.
The
garage business is over 100 years old. They have known each other
since they were at primary school, and still live across the road
from one another, with their respective parents.
Kerry
and Keith are getting married at St. Peter's Church in Peterhead,
accompanied by five bridesmaids, and witnessed by 150 guests.
The
minister is as nervous as Kerry and Keith, as he has only recently
been ordained. The reception, to which 300 people will be invited,
will be held at the Palace Hotel.
Keith
plays in the amateur football league and plays darts. Kerry enjoys
going to the gym and socialising with her friends.
After
some negotiation, Keith is having his stag party in Amsterdam whilst
Kerry's hen night will be a fancy dress affair at her place of work.
In
keeping with Peterhead tradition, both Kerry and Keith will be 'blackened'
some time before the wedding. Keith's mates are queuing up to take
part in Keith's 'blackening'.
Sarah
& Max
Sarah
(24) is a professional three-day eventer and is now training to
be a nursery teacher. Max (27) is a newly qualified doctor.
Both
Sarah and Max are very sporty. They do a lot of ski-ing together,
but there's not much time for going out as he works 30 hour shifts
at Borders General Hospital in Melrose. During filming, Max moves
job to the Cardio Thoracic Department at the Royal Infirmary in
Edinburgh.
Sarah
and Max first met in a video rental shop when a policeman asked
them to move their illegally parked cars. They've been living together
for just over a year and spent last year in New Zealand where Max
was working as a doctor.
They
are getting married in the grounds of Sarah's family home - the
ruined chapel in the grounds is being re-roofed and renovated for
the occasion.
There
will be 250 guests at the reception. Of all the brides, Sarah has
the biggest problem choosing her dress.
Max's
stag week was a sedate affair in Ayia Napa with 22 participants
whilst Sarah's hen weekend was in Killin and includes the only televised
footage of that well known gal's game - arsie penny!
Maggie & Toby
Maggie
is a Nordic pagan and Toby is a Celtic Pagan and their hand-fasting
(a pre-Christian wedding ceremony) takes place at the Clava Cairns,
an ancient site near Inverness.
Maggie
(55) has a start-up business in organic herbs and Toby (48) is a
specialist in Pagan Art and website design, and an ex-roadie for
Deep Purple.
They
have been together for three years. Maggie and Toby wrote their
own hand-fasting vows as the ceremony incorporated both their Nordic
and Celtic beliefs.
Both
Maggie and Toby have been married before, although this is the first
Pagan ceremony for Maggie. She has five children from previous marriages,
two of whom are Pagan.
Maggie's
daughter Liz, who got the two of them together by posting her mother's
details on a lonely hearts website, will be matron of honour at
the ceremony.
Their
reception includes a Raising of the Spirit Wind and a live band.
They had special outfits and rings made for their Handfasting which
promises to be a very visual wedding.
Janet
& Pat
Janet
is a railway conductor and Pat is a bus driver. It's Janet's third
marriage but Pat's first. She has three children (aged 22, 28 and
30) who have all now left home.
Janet
and Pat have been together for ten years. Janet is a Protestant
and Pat a Catholic.
They
opt for a low key wedding to avoid fuss, but want to maintain a
romantic edge. There
are ten guests invited to the wedding in Gretna Registrars before
going on to a reception at The Blacksmiths in Gretna Green.
The
next evening, 100 people gather in Cochno Masonic Lodge in Clydebank
to celebrate Janet's 50th birthday, when they announce the events
of the day before.
Jackie
& Kenny
Jackie
(32) is a housewife and mother of four (ages 16, 15 and twins of
9) and Kenny (24) is a labourer. They have known each other since
Kenny was a kid, as he's Jackie's best friend's cousin.
Football
divides the house. Jackie is a Hibs supporter and Kenny is a follower
of Hearts.
Jackie
has been married before, and was not planning to go down the same
route again. However, she just couldn't resist Kenny's proposal.
He got down on one knee at a bus stop on Niddrie Mains Road!
Her
family and friends were initially unsure but during the two year
engagement, they've all warmed to it.
The
wedding takes place at Leith Registrars with photos afterwards at
Tynecastle, where Jackie is in for a surprise from Stephen Presley
(who scored a goal for Hearts in one of their memorable wins over
Hibs).
Angie
& Max
Angie
and Max are in their early twenties and are both heavily tattooed
and pierced. Max met Angie whilst working as a tattoo artist at
a Body Modification studio in Edinburgh.
They
both like rock music and Angie manages Edinburgh band 'Abigail's
Glorious Voice'. In
contrast to their lifestyle, they marry in a traditional service
at Duddingston Kirk in Edinburgh.
Angie
walks down the aisle to the Imperial March from Star Wars, a surprise
to Max who is a Star Wars fanatic. Although Max had wanted to get
married dressed as Darth Vader.
Steve & Gordon
Steve
and Gordon are a same sex couple having a Humanist Affirmation in
Glasgow. Filming
follows them preparing for, and taking part in Glasgow's Gay Pride
March.
They
met dancing naked on a bar in Grand Canaria.
Their
karaoke stag takes place in the Gay and Lesbian Centre in Glasgow.
Their Affirmation is at St Andrews Hall in Glasgow with their respective
mothers each giving them away.
