CHILDREN IN NEED

拢13,501,375 raised by 大象传媒 Children in Need - over 拢600,000 up from last year

In the early hours of this morning (Saturday 16 November) - as seven hours of live television entertainment came to a close on 大象传媒 ONE - 拢13,501,375 had been raised for 大象传媒 Children in Need.

This total is over 拢600,000 more than last year.

When built on by further donations it will benefit many thousands of children around the UK.

Martina Milburn, Director of the 大象传媒 Children In Need charity, said: "We are thrilled with the total received tonight. Once again the generosity of the public has been breathtaking.

"We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the appeal by donating or taking the time to arrange a fundraising activity. The money raised will make a massive difference."

The evening was presented once again by the wondrous duo of Terry Wogan and Gaby Roslin, overseeing an evening of dazzling entertainment by some of the world's biggest and brightest stars.

Will Young kicked off proceedings with a rendition of Sweetest Feeling, followed by a variety of household names pulling out all the stops for Britain's disadvantaged children.

Some of pop music聮s biggest names performed: Mariah Carey; Enrique; Sir Elton John singing with Blue; Anastacia; Holly Valance and Rod Stewart.

Fame Academy took to the stage, and to commemorate 25 years since Elvis died, Eamonn Holmes, Nina Wadia and Darren Day curled their lips and shook their hips!

David Dickinson oversaw the culmination of a week's Celebrity Bargain Hunt.

Trinny and Susanna from What Not To Wear performed Madonna's Vogue with celebrity backing from Will Mellor, Tim Vincent, Royal correspondent Jennie Bond and Lesley Joseph.

And there has also been the spectacle of Circue du Soleil, and the news and weather teams sported fishnets and lipstick - and that's not the girls! - performing Rocky Horror Show.
