Blair,
Annan, McCartney, Ronaldo, and Dalai Lama head interview line-up
to mark 大象传媒 World Service 70th Anniversary
British Prime
Minister Tony Blair is the first of a series of high profile interviews
to mark the 70th anniversary of the 大象传媒 World Service in December.
The
Blair interview is followed by interviews with UN General Secretary,
Kofi Annan, Sir Paul McCartney, Brazilian football star, Ronaldo,
and the Dalai Lama later in the month.
Blair
will be answering phone and live e-mail questions from World Service
listeners around the world in a special edition of the international
multimedia interview programme Talking Point on
Tuesday 3 December at 6.30pm (GMT).
The
Iraq conflict, the Middle East, the enlargement of the European
Union and poverty in the developing world are among the topics expected
to be covered.

UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan will be giving the World Service
70th Birthday Lecture from the UN building in New York
on Wednesday 11 December, just three days after the first deadline
of the timetable for Iraqi compliance with the new UN resolution
on weapons inspections.
He
will also be answering listeners' questions from around the world.
Other
political interviews confirmed for December include President Chissano
of Mozambique, President Toledo of Peru, President Bandaranaike-Kumaratunga
of Sri Lanka, former EU President Jacques Delors, Richard von Weizsacker
(Federal German President 1984-1994), Nobel Prize for Literature
winner Wole Soyinka and former UK Foreign Secretary Lord Douglas
Hurd.
Other
70th anniversary programme highlights include a World Service
Global Party - a special live concert taking place in five
countries - Senegal, Great Britain, Afghanistan, India and Mexico
- across four continents.
The
concert, featuring Mercury award winner, Ms Dynamite, will be hosted
by veteran DJ, John Peel.
World Service
listeners around the world are also voting to determine the world鈥檚
top 10 records.
The
actual birthday - Thursday 19 December - will be marked by a day
of special programming presented from the site of the World Service's
first re-broadcast - Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa.
