TWO innovates in verse this Winter
An
innovative visual anthology of poetry, together with a competition
to find Britain's best new poet, headline a broad ranging 拢100
million Winter season on 大象传媒 TWO.
Over 35 actors and celebrities, including Damian Lewis, Christopher
Lee, Amanda Holden, Lesley Manville, Jimi Mistry, Prunella Scales
and Ioan Gruffudd act out some of the world's most memorable love
poetry in Essential Poems (To Fall In Love With).
The
poems include Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress, Sonnet 129 by
William Shakespeare and Bloody Men by Wendy Cope.
All
on the theme of love, Essential Poems celebrates St Valentine's
Day on 大象传媒 TWO.
Writer
Daisy Goodwin leads viewers through a week-long poetic journey with
poems surprising viewers as they turn up throughout the schedule.
There
will also be an online poetry competition to find Britain's best
new poet. The winning poem will get the same Essential Poems treatment
later in the year.
Later
in the season, a drama documentary Love Again will
focus on poet Philip Larkin's complex relationships with women,
starring Hugh Bonneville with Tara Fitzgerald and Eileen Atkins.

TWO is also aiming to direct some of the passion and energy of Great
Britons into a big arts initiative, launching this winter and culminating
in the autumn.
The
Big Read will be Britain's biggest ever celebration
of the joy and magic of reading literature.
In
an exciting new initiative spanning television, radio, online and
interactive services, The Big Read goes in search of Britain's best-loved
book.
During
the year the campaign, fronted by well known public figures, will
be encouraging readers around the country to read, talk about and
vote for their all-time favourite works of fiction.
They
will be supported by special reading groups, and will work with
schools and colleges throughout Britain.
From
old favourites to modern classics, a unique opportunity for readers
everywhere to share their appreciation of, and love for, some of
the world's greatest literature.
Says
Jane Root, Controller of 大象传媒 TWO: "Great Britons has shown
us that viewers can be just as passionate about, and get just as
involved in, big scale factual events, as they can be about entertainment
formats.
"Over
1.6 million people voted for their greatest Briton and many more
watched, enjoyed, debated and learnt from the series.
"I
think viewers will be just as enthused by a programme about literature,
as books have a very personal effect on their readers and mean something
different to each person.
"We
want to give everybody the opportunity to be passionately involved
in the pleasure that books can bring. The possibilities for breathing
life into books in classrooms and homes across the nation are endless."
Powerful
drama
Drama
tackles a difficult subject that often creates a passionate response.
Real
Men is a powerful drama about sexual manipulation, the
betrayal of trust and the loss of innocence, by acclaimed writer
Frank Deasy (Looking After Jo Jo).
This
disturbing landscape is visited through the eyes of Detective Inspector
Matthew Fenton, played by Ben Daniels (Cutting It, Conspiracy),
as he pursues a missing child investigation and uncovers a web of
deep-rooted abuse within his community.

TWO has a powerful drama line-up this winter, including the British
premiere of two of the most eagerly awaited series.
Currently
taking the States by storm is Steven Spielberg's Taken,
a sweeping saga that weaves together the stories of three families
and the crucial roles they played in the history of alien abductions.
Plus,
the clock keeps ticking for Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the
second series of 24, as terrorists threaten to
detonate a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles. Could this be the second
longest day of his life?

Other
drama highlights from award-winning teams include The Key,
by writer Donna Franceschild and director David Blair, and Rehab
from director Antonia Bird, who also co-produces with Ruth Caleb.
The
Key tells the stories of three generations of the same Glasgow Clydeside
family in fractured time, starring Ronni Ancona, Dawn Steele and
Ken Stott.
This
compelling drama series looks back at Britain's political and social
history from the perspective of those who lived it at the sharp
end.
Rehab
takes a hard-hitting look at one of today's most pressing social
issues - the rehabilitation of drug users.
It
is a moving story of people struggling to become clean, told with
verve and humour, and was created during a series of improvisation
workshops.
Award-winning
comedy
大象传媒
TWO brings the best comedy to British television and this season
is no exception.
DoubleTake,
winner of a Bafta for Most Innovative Programme for its pilot episode,
returns as a full-length series.
It's
the satirical programme that captures famous people in the kind
of amusing and often shocking scenarios that the tabloids would
die for - but are they the real thing?
As
the title suggests, viewers may do a double take until they realise
that they are being fooled by look-a-likes.
The popular cult comedy drama, Marion & Geoff
- formerly 10 minute programmes - has been developed into full 30
minute programmes and Keith Barrat (Rob Brydon) is no longer a mini-cab
driver, he is chauffeur to a lonely heiress and dysfunctional child.
Paul
Whitehouse returns as Danny, still striving to find a meaning to
his life and a cure for baldness, in Happiness.
The new series also stars Johnny Vegas, with guest appearances from
Kathy Burke, Ricky Gervais, Donna Air and Tony Parsons.
There's
also an insightful new entertainment show, Five Things I
Hate About You, which sees couples competing against each
other in a bid to expose their partner's most irritating habits
and foibles.
The
couples set out five things they hate about each other and, armed
with digital video cameras, they have just two weeks to gather the
evidence which will be used to confront their partner.
