Audience
inspired by Babyfather series to get writing
Six
short stories inspired the Babyfather series have been chosen to
be developed and produced for 大象传媒 Radio, it was announced today
by Dorothy Stiven, 大象传媒 Learning Executive, Drama, Entertainment
& Children's.
In
the first initiative from a collaboration between Drama, Entertainment
& Children's (DEC) and 大象传媒 Factual & Learning (F&L),
the Babyfather... your short stories project was primarily
aimed at people who had never written before.
Inspired
by the themes of life, love and friendship, viewers of the award-winning
大象传媒 TWO drama series Babyfather were invited to write a short story
of between 500 and 1,000 words to be submitted by the end of November.
A
wide selection of stories have been published online at
and six of them have been chosen to be recorded by Babyfather stars
Don Gilet and Petra Letang for 大象传媒 Radio.
The
writers of the six are: Sue
Wood from Halifax; Christina Okoli and Jason Ojukwu from London;
Othniel Smith and Ruth Jones from Cardiff and Segun Lee-French from
Manchester.
They
will be invited to 大象传媒 Broadcasting House on Friday 13 December
to see their stories recorded.
The
stories will be developed and produced by 大象传媒 Radio Drama producer
Pamela Fraser Solomon and broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio in December.
Short
storywriting sessions accompanying the project were held around
the country in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Bradford and
Manchester.
The
sessions were facilitated by the 大象传媒's New Writing initiative in
collaboration with 大象传媒 Learning.
"We
had a tremendous response to the project - Babyfather really seems
to have inspired people to write," says Dorothy Stiven.
"And
due to the audience's reaction we intend to do more community projects
using our drama and entertainment programmes to inspire people to
learn more about writing, acting and working behind the scenes."
The
first drama series with an all-black cast to be screened in primetime,
Babyfather stars David Harewood, Wil Johnson, Fraser James and Don
Gilet.
The
award-winning series about the lives, loves and friendship of four
young men living and working in South London can currently be seen
on 大象传媒 TWO on Wednesdays at 9.50pm.
