Dimbleby
Lecture - Dr Rowan Williams
The
newly appointed 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams,
delivers the 27th lecture to be given in memory of the late broadcaster,
Richard Dimbleby, tonight (Thursday 19 December, 大象传媒 ONE, 10.35pm).
Dr
Williams will say that the demise of the nation state has promoted
the rise of a "market state" and has encouraged the domination
of political strategy by consumer demand.
Dr
Williams joins an esteemed list of Dimbleby Lecture speakers from
the realms of politics, science, business and the arts.
The
distinguished series began in 1972 with Lord Annan, and has featured
Roy Jenkins - who announced the setting up of the SDP - Helmut Schmidt,
the Duke of Edinburgh, Stella Rimington, Sir Nicholas Serota, Tate
director, and last year, US President Bill Clinton among its contributors.
