Kevin
Hughes charts Wales' school swots
Pupils
from Pontypridd take on opponents from Pontypool in the quest to
find Wales' brainiest sixth formers this week.
Hosted
by 大象传媒 Radio Wales' Kevin Hughes, who presents the Welsh charts
on his evening show every week, Swot or Not is
a new quiz for schools with the winners picking up 拢1,000
in prize money.
The
quiz, which will be broadcast on Radio Wales over several Saturdays
starting in May, saw 16 schools from across Wales start the quiz.
Cardinal
Newman RC School from Rhydyfelin and St Albans RC High School of
Pontypool will be competing for a place in the semi-finals on Thursday
13 March.
The
two teams of three pupils each have to answer a general knowledge
question on the buzzer, which gives them the chance to answer questions
from a huge range of subjects including science, arts and humanities
as well as health, law and even architecture.
The
team can choose the standard for the question - either GCSE, A Level
or degree level - with degree level questions carrying the most
points.
Quizmaster
Kevin Hughes says: "I've had great fun travelling all around
Wales meeting the contestants and visiting their schools, and I've
been very impressed by how much these 16 and 17 year olds know.
It also made me realise though what a lot I must have forgotten
since leaving school."
