Stark takes Gold at Sony Awards

大象传媒 Radio Scotland's Stark Talk has won Gold in this year's prestigious Sony Awards.

At the awards ceremony in London last night (Thursday 8 May 2003), Edi Stark's interview with mountaineer and author Joe Simpson won unanimous support from the judges in the Speech category.

When the announcement was made the judges said they were "unanimous in their decision to award this programme the Gold."

They added: "The interview form is extremely common on radio.

"This compelling programme in that genre was as powerful as a drama, it took you to the edge of your seat, lifting the form way above the usual standard."

There was further good news from Edi when she picked up the Silver Award in the Speech Broadcaster category.

Speaking after her double success, Edi said: ""I am delighted for everyone involved in the programme that all our hard work over the past year has been rewarded with such a coveted award.

"It is immensely gratifying to receive this honour, and particularly pleasing that the judges bestowed us this accolade unanimously."

Radio Scotland also scooped another Silver Award in the Competition category when Asking 4 U was recognised for their series that provided Scottish schoolchildren with an opportunity to ask their heroes a whole range of interesting questions.

Maggie Cunningham, Head of Radio Scotland, said: "It is fantastic news for Edi, the Stark Talk team and the Radio Events people behind Asking 4 U.

"Radio Scotland has traditionally done well in the Sonys, and the fact that we had seven nominations this year demonstrates the depth of talent throughout the station.

"It is wonderful to pick up Gold and two Silver awards at this year's ceremony."
