The Past


Past ´óÏó´«Ã½ comedy shows with predominately black casts have included Empire Road, The Lenny Henry Show, Us Girls and Chef!.


Empire Road


Drama set in an ethnic community in a Birmingham suburb, the main focus being Emoire Road.


The show ran for two series in 1978 and 1979.

Writer – Michael Abbensetts


Cast included:


Norman Beaton, Wayne Laryea, Rudolph Walker, Trevor Butler.


The Lenny Henry Show


A comedy series starring Lenny and his unique sense of humour including a variety of sketches with appearances by a host of people.


The show ran for four series in 1984, 1987, 1988 and 1995. There was also a Christmas special in 1988.

Writers included - Ian Brown, Kim Fuller, David Hanson, James Hendrie and Lenny Henry.


Cast included:


Lenny Henry, Jane Gordon, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Jan Ravens, Gary Beadle, Bhasker Patel, Robert Bathurst and Robbie Coltrane.


Us Girls


Two, six part comedy series that transmitted in 1992 and 1993 on ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE about the cultural conflict within a three-generation family, who live together in North London.

Joanne Campbell, Mona Hammond, Dona Croll, Trevor Etienne and Trevor Laird.

Chef!


Comedy series starring Lenny Henry as Gareth Blackstock, a flamboyant top chef at one of Britain's smartest restaurants, Chateaux Anglais.


The show ran for three series over 1993, 1994 and 1996 on ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE.
